bouly-titleThis is a replica of the 1892/1893 Cynématographe or Cinématographe created by the enigmatic Léon Guillaume Bouly. Almost nothing is known about French inventor Bouly, and only two mechanisms survive, both are in the Conservatoire Nationale des Arts et Métiers, Paris. The earliest of these designs, for unperforated film and patented in 1892, is featured here. Bouly did not pay the 1894 fee for his patent, enabling the Lumière brothers to later made use of his term ‘Cinématographe’.
