Initial experiments with minute images on sheet celluloid wrapped around translucent cylinders were soon abandoned in favour of perforated filmstrips. This working replica presented one of the most difficult challenges, to reproduce the working electric motors. The development and construction of this replica, perhaps more than any of the others, gave the team involved a huge respect for the original team of inventors and designers, who did not have our benefit of examining the final successful machine before starting the project! Working with state-of-the-art materials and technology, somehow Edison’s team overcame all of the problems that they came up against.
